Don’t Let Thanksgiving Ruin Your Diet
Many people who wish to lose some excess weight have this terrible fear that Thanksgiving dinner will destroy their weight loss efforts and set them back on the road to rapid weight gain. They try to avoid having dinner with their friends and family and end up not enjoying the holiday at all.
But is that really the case? Can Thanksgiving dinner destroy a diet?
While it’s true that this holiday dinner contains a large amount of calories, you shouldn’t be afraid that it will ruin your diet. Just as one day of fasting will not get you to lose a lot of weight, so one night of a little indulgence will not ruin your long term weight loss efforts. However, that doesn’t mean that you should stuff yourself full of buttered turkey or any other fatty dishes. Eat moderately to enjoy yourself, not to make up for recent dieting efforts.
The most important thing you need to do in order to make sure that this dinner doesn’t cause you to slide back into unhealthy eating habits is to make a firm commitment to yourself that once the holiday is over, you take it upon yourself to start a new diet or continue the old one. I’m talking about having your post-thanksgiving diet plans ready so you can start the day after the holiday is over. That way, one night of indulgence will not become a habit.
I wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving and a fabulous dinner.
